Installation Windows Longhorn 3718

Hello everyone! I'm trying to install Longhorn build 3718 on one-time laptop(HP Compaq 550). I created bootable pendrive(Toshiba 16GB) using UltraISO. When I run laptop from usb setup can't kickoff : "txtsetup.ins is missing". What'southward going on? How to resolve this problem? SATA mode is disable.

Have you attempted to install the OS using the optical drive instead of usb? I had problems with trying to install older versions of Windows Betas via usb, so I ended up burning a CD with all the installation files and information technology worked nifty.

Also, your model might be too new for Longhorn anyways. It is best to use a 2003 era computer for Longhorn instead of one that was from 2009. And yes, USB setup is not recommended for Longhorn.

If Windows XP works, Longhorn should as well work.

Longhorn and XP builds are picky about ISO/partition they're in. If they are edited by tools like WinISO, they will not recognize the inverse files resulting that error. I advise you use another bootable USB maker or burn a bootable ISO created by CDIMAGE to an actual disc.

I agree with all of the posts higher up. Almost your laptop, depending on the specs, you might accept to purchase another laptop from somewhere around 2003, in order to get things going.

This laptop is too new, you won't go at least sound with any pre-reset LH. If yous really want to install it, I suggest grabbing some WinPE (like MiniXP from Hiren's BootCD xv.2, Hiren'south BootCD PE, but even Vista+ kick.wim will be enough) and WinNTSetup.

That's not really true.

LH 3718's kernel is notwithstanding heavily modified, and then no matter how close it is to XP, information technology won't work the same way.

How virtually installing Windows XP first then install 3718? Annotation that you shouldn't install it using USB equally all versions of Windows before Vista have poor USB back up.

There's a large divergence between 4074 and 3718.

You should endeavour creating the bootable LH USB with WinSetupFromUSB. This tool works most of the time to create bootable NT 5.x bootable USBs, then information technology could probably work with LH pre-reset. I might test information technology as well later.

Quick edit: It works with I386 based installers. It WON'T work with WIM based installers. In those cases yous're better off applying the WIM direct.
